Has anyone heard of Rail Iron ?
Apparently it comes from shipping by railroads &
small bits of Iron gets on the vehicle during shipment.
I've been searching for the TSB, but have not been able to find
out if the dealer will do anything about it.
[:-].
This is what I could find. *Note (My dealer never heard of it)[:@]

i heard about that a few months ago, and to my knowledge i think they will repaint the car, but you probably have to cause a very big stink first
if its not bad though i've heard of people claybaring their cars to get rid of it and it usually works

I've removed this before with a claybar. Not sure if it was from a rail car..
I've removed this before with a claybar. Not sure if it was from a rail car..
then my g/f & I worked another hour on just the front bumper with Mother's
Clay bar. It removed about 50% of the very small specks. We stopped, &
I thought I would check to see if there was a TSB for this & if GM will correct it.
I enjoy keeping my Monte clean, but with school & my jobs, it's hard to find
additional time. No matter how I try to master it : )
Thanks Mr Montejass & Wiz for your post & input

yeah i know what it is. but i have never heard of GM doing anything of it.
I have a spider crack on the top right window frame on my car and was told that there is nothing they will do about it. but then again were talking here in Germany.
they said i did it. go figure.
but any way this stuff is caused from teh iron wheels and rails making contact it creates micro fine dust on the cars and if not washed off good enough it can rust and dig in to the paint and cause the spots also.
but the biggest thing you will have to deal with is them saying it is due to you not taking care of your paint properly. weather you have or not with out a forensics test to prove tha tit is thier fault you in for a fight om sure.
Good luck!!

Space, dude you must have some pull at your dealer, I was pratically yelling at the salesman and he wouldn't even help me find the reason part of my car was painted. I found the clear drips (drips of clearcoat that collected and dried) in the drivers doorjam. Possibly it was to fix the rail dust/iron dust thing, but methinks not because I have this on the rear DSquarter as well. I wonder what would happen if I took the car to a dealer that I didn't buy it from? hmmm.... It's not that my dealeris bad, it's just that I really want to get that removed if at all possible because it is an eyesore, and I've already given them a hard time about the clearcoat drips.
Oh well, I was planning on claybarring the car anyways.

Mine had a bit of yellow specks in the paint. I used a clay bar and got them all off BUT it will take you some time and a good day or so. Got mine out though with mothers claybar and it looks fantastic. If you don't have the time a good detail shop should be able to do it for you too. I'm not sure what they'll charge. All cars shipped by rail will have some of this on them.

Hi Michael, No, I don't have any pull @ the dealership.
(It's not where I got my Monte)
I just made an appointmnet with the Service manager to inspect my Monte. I treated him with respect and did not yell or scream. I pointed out the TSB & ask if his department would be reinbursed by GM, if his department could correct the problem that my Monte Carlo had. He was a professional and very helpful and gave me an appointment that fit into my
school/work schedule.
When I came back to pick up my Monte, I went & thanked him and also went over to the detail king & also
gave them my graditude and thanks.
Kindness & Appreciation can work wonders.
Thank You Grandpa for your teachings...Thery are sinking into my mind : )
Michael, Your Monte is still under warranty, I would try the same with your dealer.. Any GMdealer can honor your GM warranty. Wish U good Luck & Super Fun miles.
