Default Transmission filter removal

I managed to break the filter off while trying to remove it, and from looking at the new filter I can tell that their is some stuck in the transmission still.. and I cant figure out the best way to remove the rest I searched the forums with no luck so far... I appreciate any advice... I tried using pliers to pull the rest out but it broke the plastic flush with the transmission..

Can you get a pic on the lip of it and pull it out maybe?

Ive been trying with a paint can lid removal tool and I managed to get some more out but the brass piece is still stuck firmly in place. I am going to try with a curved pic that may be my best option thanks for the idea

Yea that's about all I know to do, keep breaking it out piece by piece if you have to, just make sure the pieces are not going inside the trans

If it's the part I'm thinking of (kinda cylinder in shape, the seal), you might be able to use a screw driver and hits with the hammer to cause it to collapse on itself and it will drop out or tug out at that point.

You can try internal puller from harbor freight item no 95987. Only prob might b the ground clearance. Also have to be careful not to damage the seal unless u plan on replacing that or the bore. If it works...

Update: Ok so the plastic bits that were stuck up there came out easily with a coat hanger. I was confused because my new filter also came with a new seal, which i could not remove the old seal for the life of me. So I just installed the filter without replacing, and so far everything has been fine. It clicked into place so it should be good to go. The seal threw me off because it was attached to the new filter and I thought it was all one piece since it was sealed in plastic.

Tldr: make sure you pull the little seal off your new filter if theirs no need to replace it. I felt like an idiot once i got it in

Most of the time, to remove the old seal, I end up using a screw driver and a few taps of a hammer to cause the old seal to cave in on itself and drop out (hold the blade of the screw driver against any convenient outer edge of the circle for the bottom part of the seal still in the trans).

Since I'm not usually changing transmission fluid (70k-100k for me on any of my GMs), I like to install the new one since they provided it. I agree that odds are you don't need it, re-using the old one is fine.

Hopefully with this job done, some good miles are ahead of you!
