The vitals...`98 LS,109,000 miles... the problem? Just got back from a trip to Philly. Car drove just fine however on the trip back home in north carolina a loud rapping noise on the driverside of the engine compartmentstarted. No rpm issues at all and no engine light. Temps are normal. Sounds like it`s from the bellhousing area. When the ac compressor is on it`s 3 times as loud. Is this a flexplate or torque converter problem or is the ac comppressor transmitting noist through the engine to the tranny? Remember,i always have this noise but when the ac is running it`s 3 times as loud. Ac pressures and temps are good. No slippage of the tranny and drives just fine. Use only 89 or 93 octane. Got 32 mpg on the trip. I`m leaning to a tranny replacement here. Ideas? Appreciate the help guys and gals. Laters!
