Default Threw a rod?

I am buying a 2000 Monte Carlo SS from someone on Craigslist. The guy said it needs a new block and threw a rod. So I was just going to put a whole new engine in it. Does anybody know how much a used engine will cost from a junk yard/ pick n pull place? Or how much it would be to have a shop put one in if I didn't do it myself? It's a 3.8ltr V6.

Not doing it yourself can get very expensive.

Getting a used 3800 is cake. Should easily be able to get one for $300-$600

What about the cost of something brand new? Not crazy but something with a little power? Any ideas on price range installed?
