Default TCM, ABS, Tire Presure, What the H@%%

Hello MCF,
I thought 1 Monte was Stressful. But the new (to me) one, aka Widow, is making me question my Mechanical Psycie. It has a bad Hub, I know this, the ABS light is on and I can hear it. Its not loud but I know its there. Question is, will that make the Traction Control activate for something as simple as putting the car in reverse and taking my foot off the brake? It goes straight from Traction active to traction control off. We have to turn the traction system off every time we start the car. The traction control is Permanently off in the Minion Edition but the Widow belongs to the Mrs. so i have to fix it.
Anyways, I know I have a Bad Hub, right front, but could that cause the traction control module to engage just because the car is in reverse? I think the TCM is bad as well. What do you guys think?

Oh yes, I haven't told you guys, 3 weeks after we got the Widow she got side swiped in a Hit, Flip the Mrs. off and run. Drivers side fender is Crunched just to the point where the door will only open half way. Glad It wasn't me driving. Or I would be righting this from a jail cell!
Does anyone have a Black Drivers side fender they want to sell?

So I'm still here, still going crazy working 6 days a week, and now have 2 Monte SS to Put Tool to. And still Lovin MCF even though I can't visit the site as much as I use to!
Hope everyone is doing GREAT!!!!!

yes the hub can cause the traction control issues. just my 2 beanz worth here but if it were me doing the job myself (which sounds like your plan) id throw a new axle in it while I was right there at it all. axles are dirt cheap these days only take ya 10 more minutes

Aerocoup86,
Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah the axles are $60 to $70 a piece with a Lifetime warranty from Pep Boys. had to replace the passenger side front axle on Minion Edition twice. The second time they took the old one, gave me a new one and said have a nice day. Free is Good!
I checked the axles on this before we took posesion of this one. If you new what i went through with my 02 you would understand, I will never get another Monte that needs as much work as that one did. including the cost of the car I spent close to 10 grand in 3 years, then drove it from NJ to WA with no trouble at all.
The Boots and Clamps on the axles looked to be New, less than 5k miles. I know about the hub and don't mind that because hubs are an easy 45 min job. I know the a bad hub can cause the TCM to shut off but I didn't think it would make it activate just because i put the trans in gear.

A bad ABS speed sensor in wheel hub can do all kinds of crazy. The traction system and tire inflation system rely on the speed readings from all four ABS wheel speed sensors. The reason I always understood those lights to pop when you put the car in gear or move it is that is when the car did an internal diagnostic and determined the sensor is bad.

If you have a good enough scan tool, you can read the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) and it should tell you what is going on (hopefully the code for the failed ABS speed sensor is the same as the failed wheel hub). I have seen it be a broken wire once.

For my monte I had the traction go off with my ABS, started from a rare occasion to every time i started turning the wheel. I replaced the hub but it didn't solve the issue it was only fixed for a few weeks then replaced the wire harness it did the trick.

I'd wiggle the wire from the abs sensor and see if that lets you not have the issue for a bit, if that is the case change the wire harness (~$30) + a bit of soldering. I think that is simpler and a bit cheaper than a hub change out.

I just had this problem fixed, I had the exact same issues you were having and its a bad ABS speed sensor in the front left wheel hub.

Thanks to all who replied. From the info you guys have given I will have to go with the bad hub being the culprit. Gonna have to order 2. One for the Widow and one for the Minion Edition. Fortunatly the hub is the only problem with the Widow. The Minion Edition needs the hub, a radiator, a power steering pump, a BCM, and a paint job before I fully Minionize it. Oh yes and a battery. She does run, I jump it with my truck. And she's got a full tank. But she's still My Minion. Was thinking about starting her up today. Its one of those rare fall days in Wa with sun shine and clear sky's.
Hope you all are having a good w/e.

just a fyi, its been a while but I bought 2 new ac delco hubs off amazon for my 06 SS a while back for $75 shipped. only needed 1 but at that price I went ahead and got 2 lol.
was $75 each not both just to clarify :}
I understand not changing the axle if it looks good visually. But my luck id change a hub today and next week the axle would pop lol. looks can be deceiving, seen axles before that looked fine but still popped and made noise.

Aero, yeah that was my luck with the Minion edition. For my first 2 years of ownership it seemed like for every 3 weeks I drove her she needed a month in the ship or under my shade tree.
That's why the Mrs. bought the Widow. Knowing I will be able to maintain it with minimal down time cause anything that can go wrong with her's has already gone wrong with mine.
By the way, I am JC, been turning wrench for 35 year under my tree and I'm still learning.
What's your name or do you prefer just to use Aerocoupe?
We've been members for about the same length of time but I don't think we have ever spoke. Nice to meet you!

Yea I go by Aerocoupe here and on the mcss.com forum but name is Brad.
Same as you, I was basically born with a wrench in my hand I think. Its all ive ever known, watching dad and his pals and family mess and tinker with cars since. I worked at my local chevy dealer since high school starting in parts, then to turning wrenched in service dept and got burnt out. Decided to work on race cars and been working on busch series, nationwide and now truck series racing and it has its aggravations but even at that I keep something around to occupy my time piddling with when not at the track or race shop. had several montes over the years. The only brand new car I ever had was a 2000 SS monte I order October of 99 and it was delivered may 2000 with 3 miles. Still got the 86 aerocoupe ive had since 99. and currently a 06 SS and a 06 LT monte I just bought this summer for the kid who turns 16 in December. ive been tinkering with it lately getting it ready. nothing much just a few cosmetic and minor things it needed but its 99.9% ready to cut him loose in a few more weeks.
