Default sun roof

My sun roof seems to be sticking, or maybe a bad switch? When I try to open or close the sun roof on my 02, it will move a few inches then stop. I release the switch and try again, and it will move a few more inches then stop again. Sometimes it won't open all the way no matter what. I afraid it will stick open one of these times but with summer coming,I want to use it.

I've thought about getting out the good ol' WD-40, but I don't know if just lubing the tracks will help, and i don't want it to run down on my headliner and stain it.

Any suggestions?

I have not worked on one so I could be completely out of the ball park but sounds like the motor might be drawing too much power and overheating and shutting off till it cools. The same way a power window motor will stop till it sits for a while then work. If that is what the problem is a new motor should solve it.

I am assuming the sun roof motor has the same type of internal breaker the window motors have. Lubing the tracks shouldn't make it any worse.

I was just about to tell this person to check out my post: My DIC is broken.

Thanks.

Had the same problem on my 02 and the dealer could never find a problem, but they cleaned the contacts at the switch and the motor and it went away so that is something to look at
