Stalling... Part Deux?

Stalling... Part Deux?
Reading the last thread regardng stalling... My 87 SS likes to try to cut out when I come to a stop. It tries to stay running but you can watch the tach start to dive. I'll catch it and throw it into "N" and it comes back up... My question is could that also be the fuel pump? If the pump was starting to go would it start making noises sim. to valve chatter?
The"what sounds like avalve or lifter issue" started afterdumping in a bottle of fuel system cleaner. Like the next day "started". I'd hate to rip apart the top end of my L69 to then realize it was something painless.
Any help would be appreciated. Awesome site, btw.

RE: Stalling... Part Deux?
Very doubtful it would be fuel pump. Mainly because the fuel pump is under very little load. An example is like, at idle the engine requires, lets say, 10ml of fuel, however when you start to accelerate and the engine is working and under load, it now requires 100ml. So if the fuel pump is starting to die, its having trouble to pump fuel, it can handle 10ml no problem, but it can't handle that 100, only like 50. So it studders and stalls because the engine doesn't get enough fuel.
Its a poor example, but its the only thing i could think of on short notice. haha. I don't know much about the L69 so i wouldn't be able to help you much there. sorry man

That makes total sense.... Besides, when I get on it, it takes off like a rocket. You guys are very knowledgable so I'm sure I'll get an answer to the whole fuel additive related to the noisy valve theory.
Thanks

Maybe the torque converter is failing...or if the trans has one, a torque converter control solenoid.

My Monte died frequently and the Auto Clinic replaced the catalytic converter, as it was collapsed and the fuel pressure regulator. I hope this helps because this problem is very annoying.

IAC sounds like a good starting point.
I'm curious.. When it does idle normally
What r pm is it at?
2nd
Could be a dirty TPS (throttle position sensor)
But I'm leaning towards a vacuum leak and or possibly low/contaminated oil pressure...
Do you smell a sweet smell at idle?
If you open the oil filler cap..is there a milkshake color under the cap or in the valve cover?.. maybe a clogged plugged pcv valve. Could also be a clogging fuel injector. Maybe try checking the fuel pressure at the fuel rail..
How many miles on it and what motor does it have?
