Default stalling in an 87 monte ss

hey guys idk even why im going to ask on here since my dad most likely already knows but i think i know what is it too. my car stalls alot but its only when its not warmed up its an 87 ss and has the typical problems of a car that is 22 yrs old but i think its just bcuz you know all the older cars needed some time to warm up oh and its not fuel injection....and what do you guys think about this i have an older battery not sure if its 18 volt or 12 but im thinking about getting a new one should i go with the 18 since the battery gauge goes up to 18 or should i just go with the lower price on the 12 volt...would appreciate any suggestions thanks
Jim

its a 12v i personially never seen or heard of a 18v in car... ive heard of 6v but not 18v..... does it stall out no matter the temp outside? maybe a choke issue..or could use a carb rebuild

yup, i had an 84 olds with the same setup that i deleated, but i thought they got ridda that electronic BS after a couple of years caus it sucked even then.... caus i coulda swarn i saw a few 87- up GM cars with a manual choke factory setup, but im not sure...

jimbo, if your car has the electronic choke setup, i would highly recomend investing in a late 70's GM hei distributor and ether a manual / vacum choke quadrajet or a whole intake / carb from holly / edelbrock.... way better preformance, plus no 80;s electronic bs to deal with...

yes everything is stock in my car except for the exahust and the stereo and yea its 12v idk why i thought it was 18v haha but anyways thanks for the tip ill definately write that down and this winter maybe get an edelbrock carb and im going to get some new edelbrock headers and so forth got a little rust on the engine in some spots so me and pops are going to take it out and dissassemble everything to see whats going on in that 305
