True if he replaces it for a high flow cat! But not if he replaces it with a stock one! :P

I know whats the sense in replacing it with stock huh!? LOL

Well if you get a sensor from them, and they install it, probably looking around $140.

I would recommend buying your own sensor and putting it on, or buying your own and bringing it to them and just let them charge you the 10 minutes to throw it on.

Or if you wanna get fun, you can buy yourself a nice little PCM and delete that code from ever showing up. Yes I know you have a problem, but then you can save up and drive around with the crappy cat for a while, and get yourself a nice new ZZP Downpipe with high-flow cat

Hmmm.... just got a call from the mechanic. He said the o2's are fine. I need a new cat. He said parts and labor will be $600. Sounds kind of high right?

Please advise.

$600 ?!?!??! wow.

i just failed smog because i have a high flow cat, have the pcm delete on the P0420 code. i have to swap out my downpipe and cat for a stocker, then just gonna put back on after i smog it. thats a lot of money. do you live in san francisco???? just guessin by your screenname. i know CA cats are more money and harder to find especially if you search the internet for them. if you live in S.F. i can give you the number to my shop i go to, they've done everything to my monte and charge $85 an hour.....thats dirt cheap for california mechanics. probably get you a lower price than $600. also know a cheap smog shop now that will let any car pass visual inspection haha.

Let me know if you live in S.F. first, like i said im just guessin haha

See normally this is where I would say to get the $200 downpipe with the cat that bolts right in, but IDK about your case because of the smog...

There's a tsb on the cats for 2001. If you have under 120,000 miles gm should replace it for you. Theil replace it for it being plugged or because the lights on. We've sent several 2001 Buick Centurys and Imaplas to the dealer and according to the TSB Monte Carlo is covered too. It wouldn't hurt to call your gm dealer and run your vin by them. It should be covered
