Default Signs of a Replaced Motor or Transmission?

I bought a 2003 Monte Carlo LS a couple months ago from a private seller and one of the things that sold me was that the previous owner said that they had put a new motor and transmission in it at 260,000 miles. I had reason to believe him because his wife had passed away and it was her car, so it's not like they got rid of it because it had too many problems and had to pass it to someone else.

It would be nice if I can verify or at least find clues as to whether or not they have been replaced. Then again I don't know if I can and if I can't, that's fine it still runs pretty good for approx. 280,000 miles (current mileage). Thanks for reading.

you could check the transmission oil and see if it looks new (red color, no burnt smell to it). New tran oil would be needed for a replacement during the refill.

I believe motors should have VIN stamped on them? it wouldn't match the car's VIN

Okay I can try looking for that, any idea where it would be located and what kind of number I would be looking for?

no idea where it is on the motor. For the car it is just below the driver side windshield when you look at it from the outside. You'd look for the VIN not being exactly the same as your answer that there is a new motor
