Default Should i buy a new/reman Transmission or repair old one

ok here we go... several months back... i would start my car put it in reverse..back out my drive way..then put it in drive.. it would start going forward slowly..as the rpms go up the car would accelerate slowly then all of a sudden WHAM! and the tires would squeal real quick.. then the car would function normal the rest of the day ...this only happens in the morning... i always have the car running 10-15 minutes to warm up before i go anywhere... at this point im saying to myself "OMG my transmission is going and this car is only a 2004 monte carlo with less than 60k miles ".. so i start saving money to fix it...so as time goes by and it worsens... it starts to make grinding noises then wham! into gear...right now the car will grab 1st until half way and 2ndd until 3/4 no 3rd or no 4th/D but reverse is fine..... is my transmission still repairable or do i need to buy a new one... i only have 1600 to spend to fix this... i need all available options at this point.....

I got a used transmission with half the mileage of my current one, installed with a 1 year parts and labor warranty for $1500 earlier this year.

I would probably look into that route. Or just have a real long talk with a mechanic that you trust.

First, make sure you have enough transmission fluid in the transmission. If you do, then I would suggest having yours rebuilt, maybe with stronger parts.

Start calling around trust worthy shops and see what your options are. Given your budget, your probably best with Chibi's route.

DO NOT go to AAMCO, total rip off, and over priced.

The tranny's are only so-so in these cars. So here is MY opinion, and what I did.1st MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FLUID IN IT!
When MY tranny went out in my '01, reverse went out. It blew. Teeth broke. Nasty noises. BIG problems. I flat bed'd the car to my tran's shop in Ka'zoo. They rebuilt the tranny with HD after market parts, labor and everything, for $1,400. I hear of people paying WAY more than that. Stay away from the national chains, and find that tranny shop that's been doing tran's rebuilding for 40 years, still in the family.
