Default Shift lever position indicator??

I've searched this forum but I can't seem to find any info. Maybe I'm using the wrong terms.

So ever since I bought my 04 MC SS 3 months ago when I put the car in drive the D does not light up on the dash indicating what gear the car is in. If I tap the gear level forward slightly it will light up D. But when pulling it into gear it's like it's between D and 3 but the car drives fine. Is there some kind of sensor under the center console that I need to adjust?

Circled is the linkage adjustment. I don't have a clue if it'll help, because I think the sensors are in the console as well.
