Default "SERVICE TRACTION OFF" warning light on

I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Just a few days ago the yellow warning light came on. Traction off, and abs light is lit on dash. Warning bell for a few seconds when car is started then goes off. My question is if I drive car this way will it damage anything? Most likely it is the wheel hub. Don't want to shell out the money at this time. thanks!

More then likely you won't damage anything. But to confirm that statement, you should get the abs computer scanned for what code it is throwing. Not all scan tools can read that computer.

agree with maniac, i doubt it will hurt anything at all. all it did was disable abs and traction control. i deleted both of them features from mine and have had no issues from deleting it.

Thanks, a guy at work had a code unit, no codes were shown. But like you mentioned all code tools will sometimes not show. Just hate to give $350.00 to garage to replace wheel hub. Went through that bill on my 1999 monte and a month later had to dump when rusted out strut towers in rear went.

Thanks, I don't like the abs anyway! Last winter got stuck in snow and until I turned off traction, couldn't get out of that snow. NOW I HAVE NO PROBLEM! ☃👍

If that guys code reader came up with nothing, then it cannot access EBCM or BCM codes (it's only scanning the PCM). I have access to a Snap-On and a GM Tech II both can read those computers. Some of the apps you can use on a phone with a ODB-II bluetooth tool can read those computers.

Personally, I would still try to get the code read so you at least have a better idea (ensuring it's not something that might potentially be a bigger issue). I can be a little OCD like that lol.
If it's just a speed sensor, should be a non-issue.

Those lights have been on on my '02 for YEARS - at least 10. Have replaced sensors and hub assembly. Still on. ABS still works. No issues. Have 190k miles on it.

My trac off light has been coming on for over a month and abs light on. I youtubed my trouble code, C1218 and seen a video, GM ABS CODE C1218 by motoyam82, he unplugged a connector and tested terminals, they were good so he thought the pump motor or module was bad. Plugged it back up, turned on key and no more lights. So I just got done trying it and that fixed the trac off and abs light. They're gone. Least for now, they would come on the instant I backed out of my garage and took my foot off the brake. I just drove it and no lights. Hopefully that fixed it.
