Service Engine Light Came On
I have the 04 Intimidator SS. The car has been great untill the other morning when I was going to work the service engine light came on. The car seems to run perfect and there are no out of the ordinary sounds... I took it and had the code scanned and this is what came up:
P0455
Evaporative emission control large
System purge control valve circuit system shorted
Anybody have any sugestions on what is going on?

Dear golfstud2k4,
This code means u have an evap leak but it also means ur purge valve is shorted meaning a wire is either showing or losing its electircy usually the purge valve is like a canister the wiring maybe shorted and you may need a new one? Do you understand this?

Go to AutoZone and have the Codes read again ...
Then, go inside and Plug-in the Code Reader to the Printer!
Get the Print-out.
The Print-out will have a number of Troubleshooting Recommendations ... right down to checking for a possible blown Fuse!
It could save you some bucks!

RE: Service Engine Light Came On
If it's the cannister I think it is, its by the gas tank, and when you overfill the gas tank, gas runs into this cannister and rots it out. When the pump turns off, STOP. Dont try to squeeze in that last nickels worth of gas, It will destroy the cannister. I know from experience.
As for the large evap leak, wipe off the gas cap seal and the fill neck seal good, and ALWAYS turn the gas cap until it clicks AT LEAST 3 or 4 times. I have problems with that frequently. Seems the cap doesnt fit tight enough. I clean the cap seals every time I fill up now.
