Default Serpentine Belt fell off. Animal fur discovered.

So I was driving my 06 Monte Carlo 3.9 last night and I decided to floor is going up a highway. Everything went fine until I lost power steering. So I figured alright i will look at this when I get home...then my battery charging system light came on...then my car said the engine was over heating. So I pulled over, popped the hood and noticed that the accessory belt had fallen off. So I called up my insurance road side assistance and got towed home. Took a look in the morning and discovered that there was a bunch of animal fur down by the tensioner. I don't see any blood or anything though so i'm curious to know exactly what happened. The fur seems to be concentrated down by the tensioner but you can see some grey and black hair strands. Anybody else have this happen?

ALSO:

I have never re attached a belt before..is it all too hard to do? It looks like it's all routed correctly it's just off the tensioner.

thanks!

There could have been some type of small animal stowing away in the engine compartment and he didn't get caught in the belt right away. As for putting the belt back on there should be a diagram under the hood and also in the owners manual.

Put a socket on the tensioner pulley and you can relieve the tension and slip the belt the rest of the way on.

Check your belt every 6 months, they can wear down and just snap. Or a critter could have been keeping warm in your engine and was chewing on it.

LOL! Damn... That's rough. It's pretty easy to put the belt back on as long as don't have the hydraulic tensioner like on the V8s. Good luck!
