Default screen on TB

Hello can anyone tell me what the screen is for on the T.B.? I did the Upper/Lower intake gaskets (leaking oil into combustion chamber) replaced the upper intake with the new and inproved version and noticed the screen on the TB, kinda strange,,Thanks Mike

The screen straightens out the airflow for the MAF sensor to get a proper reading.

In addition, I read some debate about the screen having to do with making the air enter the UIM in a linear fashion and some other design stuff related to how it gets the air and fuel mixed together.

I thought you were just talking about MAF readings. I thought it had something to do further downstream from the MAF....

Sorry, it's been a LONG weekend.

If you have the stock intake box I would recommend keeping the screen on to "straighten the flow" (as others have said)

I personally chose to leave mine on. Some believe that it is a restriction and is not needed if one has a smooth intake which could straighten the flow of the air without needed the screen.

I haven't seen any data that supports removing it will increase flow.

However when I did a TB upgrade, ZZP recommended I remove my screen and retune the car, but if it stumbled a lot to put the screen back on.

CFM w/ 1" of vacuum.

168 LS6 MAF with screen in
191 LS6 MAF w/o screen
94 Stock GT TB with screen
104 Stock GT TB w/o screen
107 Stock GTP TB with screen
119 Stock GTP TB w/o screen
123 S1 GT HVTB w/o screen
138 S1 GTP HVTB w/o screen

With that said, for the majority of people, I'd just leave it in.
