Default Running Cold

The last couple of mornings, I've gone out started it up and let it sit for a few minutes like usual to warm up. It hasn't been very cold lately but i've noticed that within the last few days even after I let it sit for abit the temp gauge is at the bottom (the needle is far left), even after I drive to town (about 20 mins) it'll only go up to the quater mark on the temp gauge. It usually sits at half after a good drive, this "problem" with it not warming up only started a few days ago.

I've only had the car for a few months so I'm not sure what has been changed, I have winter coolent in it, and it's been working fine up until now. It's only been around the -10C (14F) mark so it's not very cold. I had to replace the battery last week due to it being to weak to start the car, do monte's just hate the cold or what should I look into? I was thinking it was a sensor, but why would it just go all of a sudden the other morning? I've been using the block heater lately and while it makes it easier to start it still is cold according to the temp gauge.

I'll concur with the thermostat being stuck open. They get gummed up sometimes. I recommend just droping 10 bucks and getting a new one.

Okay, Is this the same thing your talking about?

If I went with the 180, could I use it at the moment where it is winter and cold out? or is that thermostat just a summer time thing? (It does get very cold some days here) I was going to get this for the summer anyways.

Ditto. DO NOT PUT IN A THERMOSTAT COLDER THAN 180 DEGREES!!!!! GUARANTEED it will throw a CEL code.
Unless you have a good reason to put in a colder thermostat, stick with the 195 deg' thermostat.

I'm sure glad I read this Thread. I had planned on installing a 175 Degree or Cooler Stat for the Summer because the wife sits in traffic that crawls out of Boston during the evening rush hour.

That, and because back when I had a Peugeot 505S ... the Cooler Stat helped with controlling the chronic leak-by that occurs when the XN6 Engine got overheated. That Engine was a Big Inline-4 with replaceable Cylinder Liners with water jacket all around them and the base liner seals leaked if the engine overheated.

Am I going to be OK if I do want to run cooler than 195-Degrees and step down to the 180-ish thermostat when the Summer Months roll around?

A 180 will work just fine. Many of us here have them. I REALLY notice the difference this time of year, as the heater is MUCH colder. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to having the colder t'stat in the summer when it would usually climb to that 200 mark and beyond. My tran's climbs beyond that, and I'm hoping that will help it stay down around 200-210. I've seen my trans temp climb to 230.
Merry Christmas to you all.
