Default Rolling backwards at the light and rocking when I stop

Does anyone know what it means when my 2001 monte SS rolls backwards on slight hills at red lights? Also when I put my car into park it rocks before it stops. Just wondering if it is this is a transmission problem or is this how these transmissions work. No problems shifting that I can tell. Any ideas would be helpful.

if this is on hills its pretty normal, just use the brakes when waiting for a light to not put stress on your transmission, and when putting it in park you can use the parking brake also

creeping forward or backward in park is just the parking prawl lining up to hold the car in place, if it can be pushed around in park you have a big problem

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if that was normal because I had never had a car that did that. Where is the parking prawl located and does your car creep back and forward too?

I haven't noticed any rolling backwards at red lights, but when I first got the car I did notice (when I didn't use the parking brake) it would creep forward a little after putting it into park. Since then I have been applying the parking brake prior to shifting into park and it doesn't creep forward anymore.

I use the parking brake when I park so there is no roll, on a hill I hardly ever roll backwards unless it's an extremely steep hill.

Ok thanks again guys, I will start using my parking brake. I just thought that was was weird and wanted to see what everyone else's monte was doing. The hill is kinda steep but I use to have a buick and it would not move on the hill I was just wondering if there was a problem.
