Reset garage door opener button

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. How can I remove the garage door opener radio signal from the car?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds.

Don't hold for longer than 30 seconds.

Does the car have to be off or does it not matter?
