The fireworks came out on the final lap when race-leader Nicolas Prost, in an e.dams Renault, made contact with ex-F1 driver Nick Heidfeld, racing for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Venturi team, resulting in retirements for both drivers. But where Prost’s Renault slowly ground to a halt, Heidfeld clipped the curb and rocketed into the barrier, landing upside down.
Both drivers escaped unscathed, though Heidfeld looked ready to rumble with Prost. Brazilian Lucas di Grassi took the first Formula E checkered flag in his Audi Sport ABT.
