Replacement Key Fob Programming!
Interesting. The dealer wants $75 for the remote itself (after tax), while gmpartsdirect wants $55 shipped. Surely if I bought the remote from gmpartsdirect it would be in new working condition? I would then most likely have it programmed by the local dealer.
I had alternate instructions at one point but can't find them, as I recall it had something to do with clucking like a chicken under a full moon while your neighbor's cousin's sister-in-law did the electric slide
.... Honestly it was something to the effect of turning the ignition to run, without starting 3 times, leaving the key in the ignition and something to do with pressing the lock/unlock button on the door, hearing a beep and holding or pressing one or both buttons on the remote
... Didn't work for me but I could program through the radio. I'll keep looking to see if I can find the paper but since it didn't work for me I'm 90% sure I tossed it in the trash.
With that being said and not meaning to highjack the OP's thread but...
How do you get the part numbers? Everytime I find the part I want it just has the description but no number? Thought I used to get part numbers but wonder if they changed that feature to make it so you had to order from them.
Have been trying to find GM, Ford and Dodge sites that will let you look up part numbers to use at work but have had no luck

Keyless is a nice option and if the car has it I would want it, but that's me. Glad you weren't offended btw.

Oh and Jafo a ford is key on key off 8 times leave ignition in run the doors will lock and unlock and then hit any button on the desired remote and the doors should respond accordingly. Programming complete for a ford when this is done and you shut the key off.
I think that could've been what you were thinking of.

Turn the car to ACC:
1. Make sure that the RADIO POWER is off.
2. Hold in the DISP Button on the Radio Dash until the SETTINGS appears.
3. Cycle thru the options using the SEEK > button until you get to the FOB PROG Function(option 11)
4. Select this option using the RADIO PRESET button 1
5. Hold the DISP button down until PUSH FOB appears.
5. The KEY FOB is ready to program. Hold the LOCK and UNLOCK Buttons on the FOB. You should hear a chime when it worked.
This info is also in the OWNERS MANUAL under the KEYLESS ENTRY section.
As for the KEY FOB ID, (ON BACK OF REMOTE)it is as follows:
GM / UTA 25678792
FCC ID: KOBUT1BT
CANADA: 1983 101 393

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and it has the factory stereo. I also have two fobs for my car: the original fob, as well as a backup fob I got from GM. The original fob works but I also wanted the backup fob to be functional if I ever needed it. I followed these steps to program the backup fob and it started to work, but then the original stopped working. After that, I repeated your process again on the original fob and it started working again, but then the backup fob stopped working. Is there any way I can get both fobs to work simultaneously?

When you enter fob programming, the first fob you program erases it's previous memory of fobs, hence why you need to program all fobs at the same time.
