Default rear ends

ok so i just picked up a gmc pickup has 10 bolts on the punkin.the numbers off the diff carrier are (14055251) now id like to know what size ring gear and all is in it if anyone has the info ive searched google cant find anything good..now my monte has a # of (9799100) everything that ive found about that number says a gto??so my question is what size are both of them.like the ring and pinion size..id like to take the eaton posi out of the truck and place in the monte..i know the axels are 6lug and its to wide..but if the gears are the same size then it should fit right??any info is greatly appreaciated...(sorry if anything is spelt wrong)

post a pic of the truck rear. i doubt that itll work. the ring gear in your monte is 8.2 the truck one might be an 8.5. i dont believe that the trucks ran 8.2s. the older pontiacs and camaros also ran the 8.2 along with your monte and the other A body cars.

ill get it tomorrow and post it..ive posted a picture of mine and some have said its a 8.5..heres a pic of mine in the monte

its tough to tell from that angle. if you had a head on shot of it it would be easier. it looks like an 8.2. ive never seen a 8.5 with that cover on it, and from this angle it looks like it has 4 ears on the bottom of the housing the 8.5s ive seen only had 2. unless someone put the 8.2 cover on the 8.5 that is. take a pic of both rears from dead center. like i said it would be odd for the truck to have an 8.2 in it. i think one of the big issues with the 8.2 is that there isnt a great gear selection for them. they have all the popular gearing just not odd ball stuff for drag racing. you might be able to get a fair amount of money for yours though. maybe enough to get a carrier and some axels for a 8.5. i bought my mosers for cheap on summit.
