1998 Monte Carlo Z34 Turn Signals and Emergency Flasher quit working.....HELP
Hey guys....I just purchased a sweet 1998 Monte Carlo Z34 from my G/F's parents,The problem I have is the turn signals and emergency flashers do not work.Anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks in advance for any ideas. Joe

I've got it figured down to 3 things....with the turn signal switch being one of them, but was wondering if the flasher went bad could that cause them to quit working or if there was a chance the guy at the body shop could have put the wrong bulb in the wrong socket when the headlight housings were replaced. My g/f told me that before the new light housings were installed she would have to hold the turn signal lever at a certain position to get them to work (which I could be ok with) but after we got it back from getting the new headlight housings installed we've got no turn signals at all

wow, if you still can, I would take it back to the shop that worked on it after it went out. I'm not 100% sure on my answer, I have read alot of posts on here, that is why I suggested a bad multifunction/turn signal switch!

I'm hoping because of the high cost of replacing the turn signal switch (450.00 - 500.00) that its something else, but one thing I often come across when googling this problem is that when the turn signal switch is bad it also affects the brake lights which work fine in the rear window brake light, spoiler brake light and the regular brake lights on this car........maybe someone who has had this issue might chime in.

although... $400-500 to have it replaced in INSANE! i thought my head was gonna fall off when my mechanic quoted me around $250 with the part included. luckaly my dad is also a mechanic so we did it in our driveway, if i was you i would definitly shop around to have that work done!
one more thing that may help, when i bought my new switch i got it from advance auto, they had it for about $75, which is about $75 less than anywhere else i called. mabe it's still the same price?
good luck getting everything sorted out, a '98 Z34 is a cool car!

Definitely a switch. If she had to hold the switch at a certain position for it to work, then clearly it was already starting to go.
Shop around for the work, call places and get quotes, I agree that is wayyyy too high.

Thanks guys for the imput.....It is an awesome car other than that 1 lil problem, when I called the 2 Chevy dealerships and they quoted me the 450 - 500 price ranges I figured that was right steep, but I figured they might have more experience in doing it right than taking it to a general mechanic and taking the chance on something going wrong.Again thanks for all of your help !!!! Hey everyone.....GREAT NEWS !!!! I called a mechanic that has his own business and he told me he has seen this happen PLENTY of times,at his advice I went and pushed up and down on the emergency flasher button on to of the steering collumn 5 or 10 times really fast and with a little more than normal pressure and shabang the emergency flashers AND turn signals both started working normally again.I then took a can of air that you usually use on a computer keyboard for cleaning and blew around the inside area of the emergency flasher button and turning signal arm where it goes into the switch.Pete (the mechanic) said he has seen this happen dozens of times and all it is is a little dust/dirt builds up in the emergency flasher switch from rarely being used.Hope everyone has a great day !!!! Joe
