Default rear end woes

Anyone Know what kind of diff came in a 1985 Monte, I thought it was a 7.5 10 bolt, I bought a powertrax locker to go in it but it seems too small for the carrier, maybe a 7.6? it does have 26 spline axles.

GM used either a 7.5" or a 7.6" carrier in the Monte Carlo from '82 through '88. Since the 7.5" appears too small chances are you have the 7.6". That is unless the rear axle has been previously replaced. If that's the case you will need to ID it through the number stamped on the housing.

No tag on diff, will take a closer look to see if I can find some identifying numbers.
thanks

i thought all 78-88 gbodies ran the 7.5" 10 bolt with exception of the olds 442, and the buick grand national that ran the 8.5" 10 bolt. the only difference was what series the carrier was depending on the gear ratio. ive never heard of a 7.6" rear. if you could post a pic of the housing.

One gear company I looked at showed both being used '82 through '88 but Richmond shows both being used all the way back to '78:

As long as the rear end hasn't been replaced I'm thinking he has the 7.6" since the 7.5" appears to be too small.
