check the links i posted to some threads on the impala forums. No need to be a member to see the pics.
I believe it is safe to say, this is a '06+ monte/impala only fix. The '00-'05 monte and impala do not have a fuse panel access in the lower, passenger side foot well (it does have one on the passenger side of the dash). But i am entitled to be wrong
thank you!!! I have a '07 monte ls,i discovered the fried wire in my car, so i seperated the wires from the connecters spliced them together and it works.1
I just received this from the place called mycarstats.com.
CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10441385 Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Details: I WOULD LIKE TO RAISE CONCERN FOR A REAR DEFROSTER FAILURE ON 06+ MONTE CARLOS AS WELL AS IMPALAS. THERE IS A FAULTY CONNECTOR IN THE IN LINE FUSE BOX CAUSING A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE RAISE THIS ISSUE AS A VERY DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD ONLINE, WONDERING WHY THEY SEE RECALLS FOR REAR DEFROSTER ISSUES WITHOUT A FIRE HAZARD YET NOTHING FOR THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. IT CAUSES MAJOR BURNING ON THE WIRE AND PLASTIC FUSE BOX. THE CONCERN WOULD BE WHEN WE LOSE A LIFE IN A CAR FIRE SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE ON THIS ISSUE. I HOPE IT DOESNT TAKE THE LOSS OF A LIFE OR WORSE LIFE OF A CHILD TO MAKE THEM GET IN GEAR WITH THIS. Occurrences: 1Injuries: 0Fail Date: 11/22/2011Deaths: 0Date added to database: 12/27/2011
I'm honestly surprised with the '06-'07 Monte/Impala defroster problems with that connector, a recall or warranty item bulletin has not been sent out.
Or the fact that '00-'07 Montes/Impalas (and maybe MORE Impalas past that) have crazy defroster problems. Odds are higher people just accept the defrosters don't work vs defrosters really work.... Weird....
Old thread is old, but dang I fixed my rear defroster by following the link in The_Maniac's post. Pin & socket on the multi-connector was fried. A bypass with some #8 and power connectors solved it.
Firstly I want to thank all those who take the time to post here and help others, having followed the advise here, I chased all the wires and molly's and found nothing, but good wire with plenty of conductivity, i could hear the relay click on when I powered on the defogger, with no power past the fuse box, I pulled the fuse box on the passenger side, found burn marks on the pegs of the breaker (found behind the fuse box), cleaned the box side with a mini file and the pegs with a wire brush, allied some dielectric silicon reassembled it and got 12.58 volts to the grid.... sweet victory .. cheers here I have removed the entire dashboard cover, and loosened the sub-panel to get the fuse box out, view from behind the glove box, which aslo had to be removed cleaned and put on dielectric silicon the one at the bottom is the one for the defogger (rear of box) note the burnt lines on the peg
