I know it works and home wiring uses them, but I really would not use wire nuts for a car application. But, if you are intent to leave them, for some extra security, I'd wrap them in electrical tape (but I also do that for butt splices).

I had the same problem. Just fix mine on my 2007 Monte LS last night. Was an idiot though, I started the car with the harness unplug and my check engine light is now ON! Hopefully it turns off in a couple days after some highway driving. My friend that’s a Chevy tech told me it should. Finders crossed!

Thanks GM.... what a great morning to find out my rear defroster stopped working.
Im gunna try this inline fuse fix,,,,,, seems to be the way to go. From the pics ive seen this is very very hazordous,,, I work at a GM dealership and nobody has a clue why GM does not recall this. Will let you know how the repair goes

ok....did the inline fuse fix,, works perfectly. Glass got warm still have to wait for a morning frost to actually see. My connector looked just like the ones in the pics,,,,thanks again GM. That is a serious hazard, cant believe no recall. Hope this thread helps people,, nothing like living in New York with no rear defroster in the winter time..

@steelmelu43 - I wish my '04 Monte defroster was that easy to fix. I have to rip the interior quarter panel out to get to the defroster/radio module that doesn't work.
GM has a host of Monte/Impala defroster issues:
'00-'05 - Tabs coming off the glass and bad defroster/radio module
'06+ - The cooked connector in the wiring harness (which is nice it's an easy fix) and sometimes a loose connection on the defroster relay in the fuse block under the hood.
I wish GM would do a recall OR extended warranty on these issues. These cars are great, but failing defrosters is so sad as GM has had defrosters in cars with zero problems for many years.
Anycase, glad it sounds like this info is helping some other people!!
