We finally had a day warm enough for me to solder onto the glass / element. The terminal contact on the element was gone. I used two male electrical contacts on the end of a small jumper wire. I coiled the wire so that when it was in place it has some slack. Prior to installation I had already tinned the side of the connector that would contact the element. All that was left to do was hold it in place with the soldering iron. Luckily it stuck and it seems to be working.
