Rear ABS Harness

Rear ABS Harness
Hi all,
I had my car in for the service traction control message. it turns out that a rear ABS Harness shorted out and only when it gets wet will it go goofy. So the dealer said 330.0 to replace it!! I almost shat myself right in the service office. its a 50 dollar part. Anybody know how complicated it would be to just do it myself? Oh yeah, my extened warranty wont even cover it because water caused the harness to fail, what a load of BS!!
Thanks,
Chuck
PS: they are going to replace my bad cluster..that saves me about 500 right there...

RE: Rear ABS Harness
I'd go to a different dealership. Did you get the extended GMPP? (GM Protection Plan) My dad works at a dealership and the service tech told me that they would replace it under GMPP because it isn't supposed to short out. Good luck!

RE: Rear ABS Harness
If the coating on the wiresare damaged and water gets onto the wires it will turn green. you can just cut out the damaged part of the wires and repair the wires. But if the connector gets water intoit will also turn green. the connector termanals would have to be replace. Did they say were to short is at ? Is it a short or an open ?

RE: Rear ABS Harness
they pulled codes c1224, c1228, c1235, and c1245. it says on the estimate "short and open circuits. Rear ABS harness is intermittently shorting out. "
where on the car is this harness and is it accessable? Im not going to pay them anything to fix it if i can do it myself.

RE: Rear ABS Harness
i would think it is pretty easy to get to being wha tit is im thinking it runs acrossed the rear axel area or out of the tail ight location on each side.
might have to take the trunk carpet out or somethign to get to it but i cant see it being that hard to do. i would get a manual on it and or start lookign on line for the location of it in a wireing diogram and see if you can get to it to do it

RE: Rear ABS Harness
My father (who works at a Chevy dealership) said that this is a common problem with these cars. Like I said, if you can I might take it to a different dealership because if you have GM's extended warranty, it should cover it.
