Default randomly starting????

I just bought a 2004 monte carlo ss (not supercharged) and today it decided to randomly start after I hit the lock button on the remote a couple times. Why would this happen? Also, does anyone else's car beep when you hit the unlock button? (i'm used to it only beeping when you lock the car)

sounds like the battery in the controller is dieing with the beep thing imo is it is in the setting of the door locks related with the settings of the auto locks. you may need to describe a little more about that beeping thing.

As for the random starting, I haven't a clue. But for the honking when you hit the unlock button, you can set the car to honk only on lock, on unlock and unlock, or not at all through the radio settings. I have mine set to honk on both lock and unlock.

Default More info

First off, no I do not have a remote starter. Second, if I mess around in the different settings on the factory radio I can change when the car will beep? (and by beep i mean the car honks when it both unlocks and locks)

Yea, you can change it in the "FOB HORN" menu. There are 3 options; there's "OFF" - self explanatory, "PARTIAL" which only honks on Unlock, and "FULL" which honks for both lock and unlock.

Awesome, thanks nyislanders. But does anyone have any idea why my car would randomly start up like that? Now when my car started, I put the key in the car and turned it to the on position and tried to shut it off from there it wouldn't work. I had to turn it to the on position, apply the break, then turn it off. I don't know if this helps at all but I have no idea why my car would start on it's own without a remote starter.

No problem. Maybe it has some sort of aftermarket remote start that works by using the factory remote? I never heard of anything like that and that's all I can think of.

You can wire some of the newer remote starts to your door locks, and it will start when you press the lock button on your factory remote a certain amount of times. My bulldog starter had that option but for some reason it set some body codes and a service vehicle light so didn't use that feature
