3800. Changed the fuel pump, still just randomly shuts down going down the highway. Like you shut the key off. radio is still on, lights stay on, motor just quits.

It will start after several trys. When trying to start it doesn't even try to fire unless its going to start. When it does it starts right up. Runs great when it is running. Ideas?

So it'll attempt to turn over, just won't fire up? If so, your crankshaft position sensor is probably bad.

yea mine was doing the same thing. no pattern at all just random as ever shuts off.
i changed the crankshaft position sensor and it has not done it since.

 

special tool required for the balancer removal?

 

Yes. Just go on ebay and look for a 3800 crank pulley remover or something. There's one for 3800 and 3300 motors specifically.
