Default Rack and Pinion LEAK.

According to my mechanic my rack and pinion has to be replaced due to leaking.
However, I've read on here some can be rebuilt. How exactly? if so is it worth rebuilding or just buying a whole new rack.
Is it reccomended to get refurbished rack and pinions for an 04 monte carlo intimidator SS? My mechanic said it's not a big deal weather it's brand or refurbished. Also, did the 04 intimidator come with magnasteer straight from the dealer?
I'm trying to see which part I purchase the one with magnasteer or without it.
Anyone has experience with this specific replacement please let me know.

Thanks

I've never rebuilt a steering rack. I have replaced the lines that are on the rack itself before. I am not sure what is involved in rebuilding it, but it may be more work then it's worth.

I would say buying new vs rebuilt depends on cost. If there is a significant cost savings, rebuilt should be fine.

As for the magnasteer, I am not sure. It may require checking the RPO codes (found on a sticker in the trunk) or possibly calling a dealership to look it up.
