'03 SS, 3.8 L needs a new power steering cooler line. Old one leaking. I have a quote for $433.00, part and labor, from a nearby mechanic. Fair or rip off?

 

that sounds high because its not hard to do.

 

that line is also not cheap it's very long, runs down and around the front of the engine to the driver's side and back. I looked them up local at chain parts stores and it's around $150 or more for the line itself. I would think changing may require the pump to removed from the engine and then reinstalled so a lil time consuming and labor intense IF that has to be done. I could be wrong I haven't done one yet but I have to on my wife's 01 ss her's had been patched up several times before we got it.

Depending on where its leaking, the line may be able to be patched - cheaply and easily. The cooler line isn't running much pressure
