Default Popping Sound

When I am going slow and accelerate or decelerate i hear a popping sound. Kind of like when a kernel of popcorn pops only louder. Sometimes one pop sometimes multiple in a row. I cant pinpoint where it is coming from. Almost sounds under me and to the right. Now what is it Suspension, engine bracket, or is my 6'5" 315lbs *ss breaking the seat?

Might be a strut mount, they pop sometimes when they get old & wore, how many miles you got?

Your engine seems to be running fine? Not a horrible backfire?

strut mount or somewhere around there. mine does the same thing, plenty of bushings that can go bad, since these cars are getting pretty old, i would check all the bushings.

It's called the intermediate steering shaft and it's an annoyance only. The collapsible section of the steering column is a common clunker in most gm's. If it really bugs you buy a new one, ask a machinist to drill a hole and thread it for a grease fitting. Put it into the car and grease it with a thick poly synthetic grease every oil change and it won't clunk again. We do it at my shop often and mostly to pickup trucks. If you really wanted to you can just have it done to the original but you would need to grease it more frequently because it's already wore a small amount.

i was told by one mechanic that it was that inter. shaft... wasn't satisfied with that so i went else where.. took them 3hours to figure it out.. turns out one of the bolts on my steering rack was just lose enough to allow it to wiggle under hard acceleration and when hitting a hard bump. Charged me for 1/2h .

But like trewny said.. tons of bushings that could be causing that. Good luck!
