Unhappy Please Help =[

So I did my very first repair on my monte carlo today (oil pressure sending unit)

I disconnected the battery while I was doing it (kicking myself for this now, was just trying to reset cars computers for tire light..wish I had just left it alone)

So I completed the repair successfully was very proud of myself after locating it, getting at it and replacing it....I was all amped up for a test run!
Reconnected battery annnnnd now my car wont start.

My headlights and radio work, so I know I am getting power. My girlfriend jumped me for a good 5 minutes but it just wont start AND my key is stuck in the ignition no matter what I do! Even when I disconnect negative my ignition wont turn all the way back.

I listened under the hood while my gf tried to start and I hear clicking but no cranking (the term for the louder noise right? sorry I am really new at this) so I'm not sure which part isn't working. Anyways...where do I go from here? I looked at my fuses none looked blown but dont know how to test them without my volt ohm meter thats at my work right now....

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm freaking out a little. And I changed my oil too while I was replacing the sending unit so is it bad the new oil is just sitting there without me being able to start the car?

which engine do you have?

as far as the key goes....

are you sure its the correct key? i know, its a silly *** question, but you never know. i have two GM cars, so i have 2 GM keys. it happens, lol.

once you confirmed its the right one...

press brake pedal and hold, turn key to on, move your gear lever through all of the gears, place firmly into park, turn steering wheel left and right a couple time (you wont be able to turn it far, just a jiggle will do), firmly turn key to off, try to remove key.

if you have the 3800, the unit is on the filter arm near the belt and pulleys. there are a couple "big'' connectors, like 20+ wires. one in particular is right on the frame rail near the battery and the oil pressure sensor, it is entirely possible that you bumped that and it came loose. check that out, first. i did it myself on my battery change this fall.

if its the 3400, well, that is on the front of the engine near the filter if i remember right, which is right next to the starter. jiggle/tighten/double check the starter connections.

"he only way to remove the key at this point is to remove the plastic cowl over the steering column and use the release button that is near the ignition switch on the column. The key has to be turned to the ACC position when you press the button and it just pulls right out." - not me

"I just bought my 2007 chevy MC one week ago. I went to a friends house to show him the car just last night and started to have the same problem. We found the problem. The button you push on the gear shift is sticking. It's not coming out all the way to release the key. What we did to temporarily fix the problem was we took the shifter *** off and pulled up the plastic piece in the middle of the stick shift. I'm making an appointment with the service dept. at the dealer tomorrow. " - again, not me

How hard would it be to remove plastic cowl? And could it be a fuse, and if so which one? Starter? I've read it could be a main fuselink blown but where/what is a fuselink and wheres the main one?

I can see 2 grounds going to a bolt on the motor are there more than these 2? I'll have to grab my volt ohm meter and try a few things tomorrow...hopefully can get it running soon before work on thursday
