Default Passlock?

I had a problem with my 2002 SS the other day. I unlocked the door and went to start the car and nothing happened. The security light on the dash flashed a couple times. This went on for about 5-10 minutes as I continued to get in and out of the car and lock and unlock the doors. Finally after 10 minutes it started back up and everything was fine.

I read in the owners manual that the passlock is activated if the ignition doesn't see the proper key in the ignition. Is this the only cause that engages the passlock security or is it possible for the doors and so forth to cause the passlock to activate if they aren't recognized as being unlocked?

This has happened to me once before, but it seems it has only happened if I hit the unlock one time and get in the car. If I hit it twice and unlock both doors it never happens.

When it does that, to get it to start, turn your key your to "on" for 10 minutes (minimum), when the security light quits flashing, turn the key to "off", then it should start. I eventually got tired of mine pulling that crap (got to be REAL regular) and had the PASSLOCk replaced (about $300 to have someone do - he took most of the dash apart getting to it so not something I wanted to undertake myself)). Make sure to have it tumbled to fit your key or you'll need seperate keys for ignition and doors/trunk.

I don't think the doors have anything to do with it, at least it didn't with mine.

Yea I went to the dealer to get my thing fixed, but they never re-keyed my trunk... and I took it back and they were going to charge me like 40 more for them to match it, so I left it. Now if my battery dies, im screwed lol

my 2002 did the same thing,i was dissconnecting the battery every time then it starts right up,then i got tired of doing that so i stated pulling fuses to get it to start, and the one fuse bcm was the one pulled it and put it right back in then it starts every time.so i just put a toggle switch with a 10 amp fuse in there,so far it works..

Passlock chip is in the ignition tumbler in the dash only not doors when the key is rotated the tumbler turns inside the ignition switch housing. Key on for ten minutes let's the bcm know ur not a thief (what car thief would wait 10 mins right) and it will allow it to start. If you remove the stereo you can access the release on the ignition tumbler but it's tricky and the key has to be in the on position. It's a common gm problem and can be expensive to repair but if you have patience u can save the labour at a garage. But is probably not a DIYer kinda job.
