6th Gen ('00-'05): P0420 check engine
I've had this code for years. Replaced the o2 sensor . Went away for awhile but came back. Recently I changed my MAF sensor to fix a stalling issue, that code did go away for over 200 miles and now it is back. Please send any advise, I can't pass inspection upcoming this month
What were the smog #s on your last test? To improve fuel flow if that is the issue, change fuel filter, and clean fuel injectors (i sent mine to Fuel Injector Cleaning and Flow Testing Service. Injector Repair LLC , amazing service great price, and he replaced a fuel inject of mine with another he had lying around as mine was out of spec for my old Jeep. However, you should replace both O2 sensors when you change them, both the upstream and the downstream.
But it sounds like you might have a clogged cat or one that isn't up to par anymore and needs to be replaced. If you need something on the cheap, you can try a pick and pull, otherwise aftermarket if you don't have strict smog like California.
