Default P0171 Error Code

2002
3.4 LS
185,000 miles, engine replaced with rebuilt engine at 140,000

I know the code is a too lean code. I have also isolated the source of the leak, but I am not sure what the name of the line is, so I can go get a new one.

Would someone be able to tell me the name of the line in the attached picture? Also, it looks like the line runs from the front of the engine to a box in the on the side of the engine. The leak is in the middle where it appears to push into the engine. There is where it looks like it has split. It looks like it can be replaced without much work. Is this true?

Hi that is exactly what my thoughts were, it's the PCV valve. You should be able to pull it out and it will have a rattle to it as the vlave inside moves when you shake it. I clean mine out with carbureator cleaner and reinstall it. So is the line broken?

Default More Information

This picture has the line highlighted and the green arrow is where the leak is located. It looks straight forward to replace.

That is a PCV line. And the item with the arrow is commonly/generically called a "grommet". To my knowledge, that piece is a dealer only item.

You might be able to fabricate something or get one from a junk yard (pending it's in good shape). Could mess with some gasket/rtv sealant.

How bade it that piece??

O'Reiley's the grommet. I replaced and it seems to be working now. Only time will tell.

It is not recommended to apply any type of gasket or silicone sealer to a vacuum port. It can/will get sucked into the engine and could damage it.

I completely agree (it some with risk if you are not careful). By and far, RTV or some sealant is NOT my first choice for the application For that spot on the car if it were to be used, should be sparingly. Or for that piece, you could be possibly to use it to "reform" the piece, dry and then reconnect (so it would not plug anything).

Plus side, the OP found a new grommet at the parts store, best answer of all
