Default 01 Imp is throwing P0171 code

So my Imp is throwing P0171 code ( system running lean) . I looked in the Haynes repair manual at the toubleshooting section, but didnt find anything. I was wondering what is all the possible reasons this code would be showing.

Car Info.

Quick question, how long is a MAP sensors life span. I havent changed mine out yet, and Ive had my Imp for 6 years.

I assume this code did not pop up after doing any performance mods to the car?

I don't know of a MAF life span. I have heard the style on these cars tends to be problematic. I'd get the MAF cleaner from the parts store and try that before replacing it.

Also, you may just need to replace the upstream O2. I believe it is recommended to change the O2 sensors about 70K miles. If you do, stick with an AC Delco or Delphi sensors. Others MIGHT work, but there have been mixed results.

Thats correct. But I was talking about the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, not the MAF. But cleaning the MAF doesnt sound like such a bad idea either.

I changed my upstream O2 sensor about a year ago. I need to replace the downstream sensor though.

Don't worry so much about the down stream O2. It serves ONE purpose. It monitors the "health" of the CAT, has NO effect on performance.

BTW - What brand O2 did you put in the upstream?
