Opinion Needed
Hi, I am new to the forum but not new to driving a Monte Carlo. I used to have an 85 Monte that my son now drives and I just recently (last weekend) purchased an 03 Monte.
I am wondering what would make the car after driving it a few days start to bog down and sputtering at around 30-40 mph? The engine light is on so I plan to go after work and see what code it pulls but my understanding is the light has been on for a while so I'm kinda thinking my issue may be unrelated. Of course it could have several codes on it.
The guy I bought it from said it was maintained regularly and my problem seemed to start when I was driving in ALOT of rain Tuesday.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated since I just bought it and don't have much money right now.
Thanks
Evie

I would definitely start with the codes, work to resolve those (as that is the car actually telling you it has a problem and clues as to what to look for).
It may also be possible for it to need basic maintenance (plugs/wires for example) or it could be a clogged catalytic converter.
If you go driving, look under the car and see the cat glowing red, that 100% guarantees the cat is clogged (just because it's not glowing red does not rule it out as a suspect).
