6th Gen ('00-'05): Only Drives in Low gear?
So, as it turns out, I have an '02 MC and it doesn't want to drive, in Drive
Long story short, Car was working beautifully, nothing major was wrong with it aside from a few minor things that had nothing to do with the engine/trans.
However, I let my mother use the car to get to and from work only for her to come home one day saying the engine was smoking and there was some redish/brownish fluid in the engine(transmission fluid). Come to find out, She was driving to and from work (On the freeway no less) in low gear.
Its at least a 20 minute drive one way. It now only drives in Low gear, and doesnt reverse, when in reverse, which i haven't done since this all started.
So basically I'm hoping to just get pointed in the right direction. Its obviously a transmission problem but if i can know what exactly (or close to) is wrong with it or what part i should be focused on That would be Very Very Deeply Greatly Appreciated.

Hi Bryant,
What year and model Monte Carlo do you have ?
How many miles on your transmission ? Have you ever serviced the transmission ?
The transmission pressure control solenoid may fail causing erratic shifting. Our technicians tell us that partial dis-assembly of the transmission is necessary to replace a failed pressure control solenoid.

If it only moves in manual 1st and manual 2nd and not in 3rd or D then the forward band broke. There is also a reverse band that can break along with a manual band. If it was locked in low gear for that long that trans got VERY hot and probably cooked just about everything inside. Time for a very detailed inspection of every part and a rebuild.
