Old Monte Maintenance Concerns
I took delivery of my 1974 Monte Carlo in November 1973. Almost 48 years and 175000 miles ago. Concerning steering and suspension, at this age, what parts should I be looking
to replace? Except for an occasional click when I go over speed bumps, it seems fine. Shocks and steering damper have been replaced on a regular basis. Front upper control arms
replaced three years ago. I don't want to be driving down the road and have he wheels fall off. Thanks!

But tie rod ends and ball joints maybe, unless you have kept up the maintenance on them. I talked to a fellow who had one at a carshow recently and he put on the Poly bushings and said it made a bid difference.

A friend of mine got one of theses new Black SS It had swivel buckets.
But tie rod ends and ball joints maybe, unless you have kept up the maintenance on them. I talked to a fellow who had one at a carshow recently and he put on the Poly bushings and said it made a bid difference.

Sway bar bushings.
Lower control arm bushings. By the way, if you need lower bushings, be sure to follow the service manual to the letter. If not done right or you do it without the spacer, you will distort the control arm and end up with a useless piece of abstract modern art. This caution applies to the upper bushings as well.
