Default Oil

Just got the 02 SS recently and really want to take good care of it. Any suggestions on what oil and oil filter I should put in it when I change it? My previous cars I would throw the cheapest thing on the shelf in. This is the first car I've owned that I actually care about.

Mobil 1 is a full syn.

I prefer Pennzoil Platinum, it's been testing better recently. I also run Wix filters

Yea with my set up I run on the same oil change for 7500-10,000 miles though. Most of the time at the 10k mark the oil would still be somewhat brownish gold in color but prolly cuz my motor is actually very clean inside.

What do you do to keep it so clean inside?

I have used conventional oil and Bosch oil filters with my gm v6 cars happily for years. I usually stay with a brand name oil (Quaker state, valvoline, havoline, castrol). And I change between 3k-5k miles. For example, my 94 grand am with a 3100 v6 was still running strong when I sold it with 215k miles on it.

Last year I used a valvoline syn blend oil in the monte (during the summer I usually put a little over 5k on it before it gets parked for the winter, I figure with the sun blend, I'm good for the summer).
