Oh geeze whats this??
Ok so where the EGR system runs from the rear "manifold" INTO the engine there is some yellow/orange pasty buildup.. I really dont wanna know what it is
But what is it?? I does not look like its coming from the egr itself..

Pull your oil fill cap and see if it is on the inside of it. I am thinking moisture/condensation has built up in there. This happened on my Pontiac Van a few years back I cleaned it up, and changed the oil and I am thinking the pvc valve was replaced also. cleared it up. But it's been awhile so I am just going by memory here?!?!?
That was my first thought but closer inspection shows its more orange and its got the consistency of car wax, specifically that Maguires gold stuff.. I have the engine real clean and just had the heads off recently..
AND I was wrong about it not coming from the actual EGR corrugated metal hose that goes into the engine.. IT IS COMING FROM UP THERE and leaking down..
Im beyond stumped and so are a couple others..

I am pretty sure your lower/upper intake gaskets are failing. Above that EGR connection the upper intake gasket has passages for coolant to flow in and out of the throttle body. If you are still on the original gaskets, might just be best to change them. The job is pretty easy and if you do it yourself, not very expensive. Just takes some time.

I have the green stuff in there.. Did that quite a while ago, first day I got the car..
What do you guys think about a throttle body gasket going bad??
Im about to tear the engine apart but I honestly dont have the time to do that for a few more weeks (its planned but REALLY dont wanna have to overwork myself between this, that, and the 50 other.. Ya know..) and id like to just make a quick repair for the time being if possible..
Just trying to get any and all ideas on the table and see if I should just fix whatever real quick or tear it down and do the several things I have planned already..
Plus the bonneville is outta service for the time being so on top of squeezing the work in, ill have to drop everything that requires leaving home.. Like thats a bad thing right??
Hmmm, wondering if this is as bad as I first though LOL!!

What do you suggest I do while I have the engine tore apart? What CAN I do in regards to upgrading/performance while I have it open..
Any and all suggestions more than appreciated here and honestly REALLY needed.
Thanks guys so far. Gonna take care of it in maybe a week and definetely keep yous updated..
Got some pics to put up in this thread tomorrow morning also... ICK!!
Sorry about the leak, but at least you caught it, good eye. I would definitely clean the carbon out of the egr passage where it flows into the throttle body, a common problem with 3.1 and 3.4L's. For that matter, you might as well clean the whole throttle body. You might also consider replacing the injectors, and plugs and wires if it's been a while. There's a seller on eBay that sells 6 brand new OEM (Delphi) ones for like $110. I bought a set about 40K ago and haven't had a problem. Since you're draining cooling system you might replace the water pump and flush the system, a new t-stat is a must. Check the condition of vacuum lines and fittings. Maybe change the belt too.

Even if it's not dex, wonder if it is the gasket material itself (the factory nylon gaskets have a red rubbery material on them for the matting surfaces.
I agree with much of what Plumbob listed, but I differ at the injectors. Unless you are running some really bad gas in the car or have an existing problem, I would leave the injectors alone.
Maintenance, Plumbob rattled off a good list:
- Plugs/Wires
- Water pump/hoses
- CLEAN everything while it's apart (clean the intake, clean the insides of the valve covers, clean up any carbon).
- Inspect the UIM, the walls between the EGR stove pipe and the coolant parts for the throttle body tend to break down.
- Clean carbon from the UIM and throttle body.
- Upgrade to Fel-Pro aluminum core gaskets.
Now some other things you can do (if you are not playing top swap):
- Port match your lower intake (check my web site for more info).
- Expand the coolant bypass of the lower intake (also on my web site).
- Plug the coolant flow at the LIM to and from the throttle body (stops breakdown of the plastic on the UIM).
- Consider an L26 UIM swap (I have a write up on my swap in the FWD Tech Info section).
- Upgrade the water pump from a stamped steel impeller to a cast aluminum pump (series I pump with series I pulley or a Series III pump).
- If you have interest in a ZZP HV Throttle body on a L36/L26 set up, just upgrade to a L67 unit (minor changes required). But you should pair it with HV3 and ER Rockers.
