Default Noisy Steering Column When Turning Wheel

Hello,

I have a 2007 Monte Carlo LT. I am experiencing (have been for a while) a noisy steering column. It almost sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber when turning the wheel. It is not very loud, but wondering if there is an easy fix to it. Sounds like it is coming from within the column.

Thanks for any advice.

I will give it a try, but this is definitly a squeak sounding like rubber or vinyl rubbing against something. It does not make the clunking sound referenced in the article. I am wondering if any notices this with their Monte Carlo.

I have the same sound that you are describing, and every spring I oil the ISS and it seems to go away.

Give it a shot, shouldn't cost you anything but 5 minutes if you already have a type of oil.

I will give it a try. What type of grease did you use, Lithium?

My Dad has a can of gun-oil that I use

I am unsure of what it is made of, it's in one of those tin oil cans

Wow, I have the same problem as well. I thought maybe the CV joints were starting to go. But I'm going to try this before I condemn them. It's like a very slight clunking in the steering wheel at low speeds.

I have the same type of issue with my 03 SS... Its a clunking sound that you can feel when slowly turning... I noticed the 2nd reply offers a fix... Does this apply to my year as well? Where can that spray be purchased? Autozone type store? This has been an issue (one of MANY! see new thread... TRACTION SYSTEM MALFUNCTION) since we bought the car...

Yes that works for you also. I do it every spring with gun-oil.

You can find the lubricant anywhere really. Just make sure it's a white lithium and it's in a small container that will be easy to spray upwards since you will be laying on your back to do this.
