Monte Egine build
I have a 86 monte carlo SS. I building a 383 for it. what do you think of this build and whats my estimated horsepower and torque.
sbc383
hypeutectic pistons( 2 valve relief )
AFR 195 (65cc) heads..or.. Brodix IK200 (64) heads...both aluminum
with AFR 10.7 comp(8.34 dynamic)............Brodix 11.0 compression(8.45 dynamic)
comp cam magnum 286h ( flat tappet)12-326-4
1.52 rockers
750 carberator
high rise intake( air gap)
1 5/8 headers
3000 stall
Now im on a budget...but what is the most WISE decision when it comes too choosing the correct heads for the right compression.

just remember down the road you want to go with any kind of boost or nitrous the hypertonic pistons are no good for those type of applications

Welcome BG to our Monte Carlo Family
It's great to have another 4th Gen SS join the family.
We would all love to see pictures of your SS 4-Sure.

$ Money $ is always a major factor when one
considers Mod's.
Wish you good luck & we look forward to
your future posts & pic's.

from what i've experienced, 383 strokers are more expensive to build compared to other sbc's because of the machining and other customizations. if you're really on a strict budget, the 350 would be the cheapest bang for the buck. but, even a mildly built 383 is a real torque monster along with the 400, so i think you'll be happy when you're done.
i punched in your specs on my DynoSE dyno simulation software and this is what came out. this software can only give you an idea of where you can get hp wise. i can easily type is cam specs, exhaust specs, compression ratio, displacement etc but it's flaw is where you choose the head type. you can't just put in brodix P/N xxxx or whatever, just if it's a stock or racing head with big or small valves with porting/no porting etc. i think it works best if you have an engine with stock heads and you wanna see how much gain you will get from a certain cam, headers, bigger carb, etc.
at least this can give you an idea:
426 HP @ 6000 RPM
415 lb-ft torque @ 4500 RPM
hope this helps.
