Found a Monte Build Sheet in my Chevelle
Hey Guys,
I found a 1970 big block Monte Carlo build sheet under the back seat of my 1969 Chevelle. Would appreciate you help in finding the owner of this car so I can get it to them. It looks like it was a very nice Monte.

Apparently the back seat in my Chevelle is out of a 1970 Monte. I have never seen the car and was going by the build sheet description. I was hoping there was enough information on the build sheet that the owner could check his cowl (trim tag) and partial vin to see if it is their car. It is an LS3 and all of the options are shown.
I got pretty excited when I saw it under the seat and was hoping it was the one for my 69 chevelle.

space, back in the 60's & 70's, goof up's were kinda common at the factory with this kinda stuff. a good one i knew about was that the guy my dad bought his '71 super bee off of got the car free of charge because chrysler built it with a 3 speed stick instead of the 4 speed he ordered.
back to the subject, a build sheet identified exactly what options the car was to be built with, used at the factory as a referance / check sheet. 1 or 2 copy's of the build sheet were typically put into the car as it rolled off the asembly line, one under the rear seat. nowadays, they are HIGHLY sought after by restorers, because most examples were lost to time / mice... but if one like the above is found in good condition, it can provide a TON of info for the owner of the car it belongs to. i found the build sheet intact under the seat of my '65 buick if the owner of that monte can be found, it would be a goldmine of info for them to restore the car to
and it does look like it had a ton of options. i just glanced at the one pic, i see power disc brakes, A/C, power steering, door edge gaurds, a vinal top, dual exaust, and the all important "LS3 400 4bbl V8"
steve, thank you very much for the info, im not sure many will be able to help on this forum due to a lack of 1st gen owners, but you may want to concider contacting one of the board members / officers at 1st gen MC.com and notify them of your find. they could probibly help locate the owner of that monte if its still around good luck!

Welcome to MCF, Steve.
Pretty cool and kind of funny you found a Monte Carlo build sheet in your Chevelle.
I bought a set of bucket seats at a swap meet the seller swore were out of his daughter's LeBaron convertible. I turned the pass bucket seat over and stuffed in the springs was the build sheet for a 1985 SS Monte Carlo. Apparently, Mike from Mike's Montes had looked the seats over before I got there and disregarded them believing the story they came out of a LeBaron. I offered the seller $20 for both seats and took them home.

Thanks for making the efforts to find the owner. The person who really needs that build sheet may or may not be on any old car forums, and if they are they may not check their build sheet number. That could (the Monte) could have rusted away, been wrecked, turned into a dragster, if it was a really a big block Monte, it may have run NASCAR, and thus the back seat was given to someone else... ti could have been a goof at the factory (nobody does that anymore), or the owner could just be someone who restored the car or is going to restore that car but doesn't look around on the car forums to see if someone has the build sheet. That car may not even be in the country! You may get lucky though!

I have never found the build sheet for my 1970 Monte Carlo. Its not in the rear or front seat. I have never had the gas tank down to see if one is there but those usually fell apart from the weather. I do have the build sheet for another 1st gen Monte that I found somewhere. When did they stop putting buildsheets in cars?

My guess is the late 1980s. I've yet to hear of anyone claim to find a build sheet for a 1995-99 Monte but I doubt anyone's ever looked?
I know a guy on one of the Tri-5 web sites claims he found a build sheet for his '57 Chevy. But no one has ever seen one. I know I'm the second owner of my 4-door and I've never found one. I seriously doubt a 70 year old woman would have been out in the garage tearing the car apart looking for the build sheets for the car. Some of us question the fact this '57 owner is making this claim but you never know?
