Unhappy Mess of problems

Hey there im new here. I have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo SS 3.8 Automatic trans.
Here are the problems.
I wont shift into 4th gear so im running 3500 RPM's at 73-75 mph
The ignition doesn't always work.
Sometimes the Abs and the trac light comes on then i see a message that says Service Traction System. When this happens the turn signals don't work.
Sometimes when I try to use them the car dies.
I have somewhere between 170,000- 171,000 miles on the motor/trans.
Thanks any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may be in need of a transmission rebuild and/or new torque converter and/or solenoids. But, check your transmission fluid first. If it's low, put some in it and see what happens.

The ignition switch may need to be replaced. (could also be a problem with VATS or an ignition module)

The electrical issues sound like it could be related to a failing BCM.

Hope this has helped.

As far as i've researched I think the solenoid for the trans is about the only thing it could be because its not like there was any grinding or anything it just up and quit one day.(Problably long before i noticed)
The Ignition I've been told would probably be the Ignition Solenoid or the tumbler?
It drives fine just runs really high RPM's and is only getting about 21 Mpg.
Still I want to dump some money in it. ie, Engine mods, Exhaust and a new paint job. This is my first car i had to take a loan out for and i pay it off soon so i dont wanna see it die so quickly after its officially mine.

Could you be more specific with your ignition issue? Is the car cutting off or what?

Sounds like a bad wire to me, pull your console apart and check for frayed wires. Also, in behind the brake is also suspect. Good luck.

you'll more than likely need a trany rebuild. same thing happened to my 03 1 year after i bought it with only 130k. lost 4th gear. drove it for another 9 months to save the money before i started to lose other gears. the gears grind down into suck fine particles that the filter catches them all so when you have a fluid check you see minimal shavings and think your good to go. gas mileage is normal. thats what mine gets.
there is lots of posts about the trac control systems. honestly i feel you have a bad ground problem. bad grounds will cause immense complications in all kinds of areas. including shutting your car down while driving it down the road. triple check them all. and dont forget to check fuses. also it wouldnt hurt to check into the hazard switch. that will cause your car to not start, or shut down, and cause issues with turn signals.
