Hi,

My low oil pressure light came on a couple of weeks ago. I stopped as soon as I could, and checked the oil level (about 1/2 quart low). I waited about 15 minutes. When I restarted the car, the light didn't come on, so I drove home. I had it checked out by a friend/mechanic. He said the light sometimes comes on when there is a head gasket leak. He did find an area where a little coolant was leaking. He said to keep an eye on the coolant level, and if it keeps dropping, bring it back to get the gasket fixed (for about $400).

The car has about 119,000, and runs great. I didn't hear any strange noises even when the light came on. fyi the Check Engine Light is not on either.

Yesterday the light came on again. I thought I'd try changing the oil pressure switch, but I could find it.

Can someone tell me where the switch is? Am I wasting my time replacing it? Any other thoughts?

What kind of car do you have?

 

it is usually neer the oil filter area but what type of car or what type of engine do you have we might help nerow every thing down for you

 

Sorry I realized I forgot to add that info yesterday when I was out. It's a 2003 Monte SS.

I read elsewhere that it was near the oil filter. I took a quick look there but didn't it. Does the filter need to be removed?
