Default Low Oil Light

2002 Monte Carlo SS

low oil light has been on for probably a year, but dipstip was good.

Did the dreaded oil pan & gasket replacement. While there, replaced the oil sensor.

oil light initially went off, but after a few miles and days, it has returned though only when starting it and then goes out about one minute later.

Anything else besides the oil pressure switch I should replace? Is there an oil sending unit?

Well, scratch that.
Seems the only thing the orange/yellow low oil light picks up on is in fact low oil.

The red oil can light (which is NOT on) would indicate if the oil switch or sending unit were bad or malfunctioning.

So is there another oil level sensor somewhere? Or maybe the oil can light needs the bulb replaced (rest of dash lights seem to be working fine).

Any suggestions?

Not sure I am following everything, so I will re-cap what I think I understand.
You are receiving a message "low engine oil level". You don't see any issues according to the oil dipstick, you have an appropriate level of oil. You replaced the oil pan and gasket (which normally that is done if it is leaking or signs of the pan rotting away). The pan has an oil level switch that screws in from the outside the pan. That is the ONLY item that controls that light. Unless I missed it, I did not see anything saying you replaced it (so I am assuming you re-used the one you had). That being said, you either have a bad oil level switch in the pan OR a fault/break in the wiring/connector for the switch.

The car does have an oil pressure sending unit, but that has nothing to do with the "low engine oil level" light you are seeing.
