Default Low engine oil level dash wqrning light

When I start my car, The "low engine oil level" dash warning light comes on. It stays on for a few minutes, then it disappears. When I go under the hood to actually check the oil level with the dip stick, it shows the oil level as being OK. I will reset the oil level warning light, and the "low engine oil" warning light stays off the next time I start the car, but then it returns. What could be causing this, and how do I fix it? I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS, with a 3.8 liter engine. The car has only 85,000 miles.

There's a sensor on your oil pan. Check the wiring, perhaps replace the sensor. Oil will come out when you remove it. So do it during an oil change.

Thank you. I'll get to it right away.
